About My Work

As Assessor for the Town of Islesboro, I wear a number of different hats.  I am responsible for maintaining and updating the town property records kept at the Town Office.  I also file a number of state required reports such as the municipal valuation return, Maine Forest Service tree growth report, annual sales-ratio study, and the homestead reimbursement form.  Other duties include preparing the annual tax commitment, establishing just valuations, and maintaining the town’s GIS (Geographic Information Systems) database.

Frequent Questions

Are there programs to lower my real estate taxes?

Yes there are several, and they are available to all residents of the state of Maine.  The homestead exemption, veterans exemption for veterans who are at least 62 and served during a federally recognized war period, and exemptions for persons who are legally blind.

The Maine Circuitbreaker Program has been repealed as part of the enacted state budget for claims beginning on or after August 1, 2013.  The Circuitbreaker Program has been replaced by a refundable Property Tax Fairness Credit that can be claimed on the Maine Individual Income Tax Form.
